The Jobs You’ll Be Able to Perform

Those who complete the Cybersecurity Boot Camp will learn critical skills relevant to the following careers:

Typically a military position, this relatively new role helps protect computer networks from the rising threat of cyberattacks. Individuals in this role perform specialized computer network defense duties, including infrastructure support, incident response, auditing and managing.

Utilizes various software to increase and strengthen the security of digital data through identifying weaknesses in networks’ security systems, patching or responding to issues, implementing threat protection measures and creating contingency plans.

Performs assessments of systems and networks within a computer network and identifies where security weaknesses or policy, regulation, and compliance breaches may exist. 

Preemptively combats cyber breaches, while improving response and reporting capabilities. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance to restore full operational capacity.

Protects data and servers in a designated computer network. Sets up firewalls and anti-virus protection, adds passwords to servers, and implements restrictions on user access and activity to ensure security of the network.

Conducts analysis and develops the integration, testing, operations, and maintenance of systems security.

Establishes and satisfies security requirements based upon the analysis of the organization’s policies, regulations, and resource demands. Manages risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information.

Works within local, state, national, and international law enforcement agencies, as well as within personal investigation firms, to gather, analyze, and investigate digital data and computer evidence.

Prevents escalation of severe security threats, provides reports to the organization’s security and leadership teams, utilizes tools to minimize the effects of a security breach, and performs analysis to ensure the recovery of the organization’s computer network.

The first-responders to cybersecurity breaches. Monitors and fights cyber threats to an organization’s IT infrastructure, as well as assesses security systems and measures for weaknesses and opportunity for improvements.

Real World Projects You’ll Work On

By the time you complete the Cybersecurity Boot Camp, you will be able to do:

  • Network Analysis & Troubleshooting: Monitor the packets being transmitted over a network to gain insight into problems such as dropped packets and explore other patterns apparent only at the packet-level.
  • Network Security Monitoring & Logging: Analyze log data, identify and characterize intrusion evident from the data, and perform incident response.
  • Attacking a Web Application:  Explore, attack, and profile a vulnerable website with tools like Burp Suite. Then, summarize the site’s vulnerabilities with policy recommendations.
  • Cracking & Securing Password-Protected Data: Gain experience with password cracking strategies, and write a report suggesting technical, governance, and UX policies effective for minimizing vulnerability to such attacks.
  • Penetration Testing: Examine pre-made systems for vulnerabilities using tools like Metasploit. Develop recommendations for mitigating any vulnerabilities that may have been uncovered during the pen test.
  • Digital Forensics: Using one or more common tools such as FTK, Sleuthkit, Kali Linux, Volatility, SNORT, describe the steps in performing digital forensics from the initial recognition of an incident through the steps of evidence gathering, preservation and analysis.
